why we do what we do

Yesterday, we had my young son's birthday party at the noisiest place on earth.

Why? Because we love him and that is what he really, really wanted.

I cannot express how wiped out we all were when it was over.

But as I was towelling D. off after his bath last night (and boy did he need it. We all did!), I asked him if his birthday party had been everything he'd hoped for.

He nodded vigorously.

And then he said, "Actually, it was even better!"

So, I'd have to say that it was worth it.

And that I would do it again.

But I am really, really glad that birthdays come only once a year.

One of my fondest memories is of my Mom (who died of breast cancer in 1999) bouncing down the roller/slide when we took our son when he was little (he is 15 now). She had such fun. Thank you for reminding me of that.

At the moment, my son really wants me to take him to Chuck E. Cheese's - another very noisy place, especially on the week-end. The last time I did, I was soo happy to leave that place. I understand completely when you say that you're happy birthdays are only once/year! I'm glad you all had fun!

Lise, thanks for sharing that memory. And it's lovely that your mom was able and willing to get right into things - and to create that memory for you.

Dee, D. has been asking (and asking) to go to Chuck E. Cheese based on the commercials (as far as I know the chain doesn't exist here). We have thus far avoided it...;-)

Laurie,
Chuck E. Cheese is an absolute madhouse on the week-ends. If ever you venture to this place, try to go during the week and early in the day. Less chaos, for sure.

Just so you know . . .your comment in an earlier post about creating good memories with your sons, well, it just really hit home. I made a very difficult decision last week based on that comment. I just wanted to let you know that that comment reminded me of what my priorities were at this point. I mentioned it to Jeanne last week and she said that she uses the term "front loading your life". I like that term.

Also, your resolutions about losing weight and eating better - that's inspired me to try to lose these 7-10 pounds that I've gained in the last year - 5 in the last two months on this present drug regimen. I gain my weight around my waist - so while you look at your ass, I see my love handles. Sigh! Since I am only partially expanded with the breast implants, I think my tummy sticks out than my boobs! Bummer, huh?

I have some lymphedema issues going on - so I really appreciated the comment about salt and that contributes to lymphedema.

I'll cheer you on about sticking to a healthy diet and getting exercise when you can, okay?

Dee, thanks - I am hoping to avoid Chuck E Cheese but if I am ever talked into it, I will follow your advice. ;-)
And thanks for your other other supportive words. I like to think that my blog touches people (in addition to helping work through my own stuff). Comments/feedback like yours are the ones that keep me writing.
