not what i intended

I had my hair cut on Wednesday. I've been growing it out (my hair was very short in the months before my diagnosis but now that I have hair again, I seem to want lots of it). This process has been really slow. The shortest bits on the top are no more than four inches long, despite the fact that my last hair-loss inducing chemotherapy session was in June 2006.

Every once in a while I go in and have it shaped, to make the growing out look less obvious and to avoid looking like I have a mullet. I've been going to the same guy for a few years.

On Wednesday, he cut my hair and then dried it. I was happy with how it looked. Then he set about thinning it out (my hair is pretty thick) and blending in the layers. At least that's what I think he was doing.

The end result is a kind of short shag. I'm not sure how I feel about it. And after getting it done, I kept feeling that each glance in the mirror reminded me of someone.

Last night it hit me.

Jon Bon Jovi.

My spouse agrees.

I'll have to see how it grows out.

S. and I are off to London, England tomorrow. Not sure if I will be online very much. We come back on April 19th.

Regular programming will resume after that.

I am desperate to see a picture of you with JBJ hair. Desperate. You totally have the cheekbones to carry it off, but the scowl/pout? Only a photo would prove it... ;)

Have fun in England!

Laurie, just found your blog. It's a great read, very informative and inspirational.

Jon Bon Jovi is very hip these days so perhaps the haircut will get you places you want to go. :-) Enjoy your trip.

Hi Laurie,
The link to the mullet photos was hilarious! I'm glad that you're feeling well enough to go to London and I hope you have a fabulous trip.

I've read your blog from time to time - from links from Jeanne's blog - and I think that you shouldn't beat yourself up about writing. You are writing in your blog and you're making a difference there. You make some very keen observations . . .

and, yes, I agree with the other comments. I'd would've liked to see your JBJ shag!
take care, Dee

I just came to your blog searching for things to do today. I must say, It is interesting. Just think, that hair stylist might make you look like Jon, but how are you gonna get all the money he has earned over the years? Well, the thought was nice anyhow, right?

Have a great day,

John

Don't forget about the classic mullet haikus - they provide deeper meaning to the spirit of the classic 'do.

Hey, The last peron I seemed to recognize in the mirror was Camilla Parker-Bowles (yup -it was a rough week). So with JBJ you're WAYYYYYYYY ahead. LR
PS: Do not even think of tibetan terriers without talking to me first. My best friend in the 80's had one mixed with cocker spaniel. We kept asking why the spaniel genes hadn't diluted anything......

I will post pics from England, but the hair has improved quite a bit...friends did say that they understood the reference though.
LR: You could never look like Camilla in a million years. And TTs? I will email you as we are past the TT thinking stage and into the TT planning stage...
