bigger than the beatles
So Barack Obama is in my town as I write this. He has had a meeting with the Prime Minister, some lunch and then they took him for a beaver tail (deep-fried flat pastries) in the market.
Why am I embarrassed by this?
I can't help but think, though, that he would have enjoyed the beaver tail more if had gone skating first.
I hope he was advised to have the Killaloe Sunshine and not the Nutella.
Traffic in my neighbourhood is a mess right now, as I live on the way to the airport. I really pity anyone who had a commercial flight out of the city today.

I thought it was pretty nice to see people excited for the first time in a long time about a political figure....especially since we don't have much to get excited about with our own leaders...People survived the bus strike, a few hours of inconvenience on a few routes seems like a walk in the park.
BTW, I think he had the tail named after him...
A friend of mine who owns a store in the Market Mall building was on the phone with a colleague (at the store's other location) bemoaning the slow day due to Obama's visit and how ridiculous is all the Obama hysteria (etc etc).Suddenly, there are helicopters overhead and the Mall is swarming with cops. My friend walks out to see what's going on, only to come face to face with Obama himself. Obama reaches out his hand and says "Hi, nice to meet you". My friend quickly recovers and replies "Welcome to Canada, Mr President", while his colleague is screaming with amazement as she's hearing this interaction over the phone. According to my friend, Obama is very tall, very good looking and has piercing eyes. He hasn't stopped talking about it since it happened. His only regret is that he was wearing a plain outfit that day. I told him that given the recession, am sure Obama would understand the lack of a fashion statement.
I have to agree. I'm not a Nutella fan.
But now the beaver tail has me intrigued...
