I remember the day very well. I was teaching a social work course and when the word rippled through the classroom, the sobbing and stricken faces, my own included, will never be forgotten. I think the students, roughly the same ages as the victims, felt a special kinship with those young women. We adults felt the additional sadness about a world in which we could not protect them.
